đ§ Agency
The hemispheres arise early in embryonic development, as the neural tube balloons into forebrain, midbrain, hindbrain. The ancient bilaterally symmetric body plan â head, eyes, ears, limbs â is echoed in the brain. Two halves, mirrored, like matter and antimatter. One keeps watch for food, the other for predators. One sharpens into fast, tactical, sequential processing; the other drifts toward broader, contextual, holistic awareness. One hunts, the other gathers. From this divide emerge two institutions: a brutalist slab-gray Central Intelligence Agency of words, sequences, and contingencies, and across from it, a candycane Kremlin of images and intuitions â opaque, ornamental, enigmatic, bizarre, multipolar.
